Class Structure and Working from home
The classes will have a maximum of 6 students per class. Each class will have a day and time at which it meets. Classes will be 2 hours long and the time will be fixed. There may be other classes taking place before and after your class time. I will be providing the clay, glazes, and tools for working with clay during the demonstration/beginning classes. There will be specific open studio hours for June and July that will allow you to work on your projects with my help. Open studio will have a small cost of $5 per open studio. We will arrange the hours as the classes go on so that they are useful to everyone and do not cost anyone too much. During open studio hours I will be working on my own pottery so you will be able to see various techniques. I will also be helping the attendees at the open studios. The hours of the individual open studios will vary depending upon the needs of all of us.
You will also find that working at your home doing hand building or glazing can be a very restful activity to do by yourself or with friends or your children. I would encourage you to pursue those activities. If you have other individuals working with you who are not in the classes you can have their items fired in our kilns. Your items are fired free because you are in one or more classes. Your friends or children's items will only take up a small amount of the space in the kiln. I can determine a price with your input for doing extra items of that nature. A kiln load in the small kiln costs about $25 for electricity used in the firing. In the large kiln the cost is approximately $35. It takes a day to fire and a day to cool a kiln back down. The kilns are computer controlled and only one kiln fires at a time. The kilns take between 10 and 30 pieces during a firing depending upon the size of the objects to be fired. The kilns are located in the kiln shed on our west lawn. You can also buy clay and glazes through Joy Ceramics for yourself or friends. A good source for pottery supplies and equipment is Dick Blick Art Supplies (https://www.dickblick.com/categories/ceramics-sculpture/).
